New generation
GEN5 is the new generation of the Modix filament printers, and it is what ships today. Same models, same build volumes, same modular design: a new electronics and reliability generation.

Griffin print head family
Every BIG printer ships with the standard Griffin. Three more configurations share the same bracket, so the melting subsystem swaps in minutes as the application changes: fine detail one week, bulk speed the next.
The default balance of speed and detail for prototypes, tooling and production parts. Rigid heat block, bi-metal heat break, PT-1000 sensor.
A hotend 50% shorter than standard for tighter retractions, fine detail and dimensional accuracy on small parts. Drop-in upgrade.
A double-length heat block for bulky parts and thick vase-mode walls. The 80 W heater recovers fast at speed; a CNC bracket keeps the long block steady.
A complete all-metal extruder with four times the melt zone, no PTFE in the heat path and dual cooling fans. Nylon and carbon-filled compounds at 450 °C. Multi-day prints finish in hours.
Dual drive gears grip the filament from both sides for consistent feeding, 3:1 gear reduction, direct drive.
Fast heat transfer and high-temperature printing with a PT-1000 sensor. Rigidly mounted, so a collision with a thick layer does not bend the heat break.
Compatible with the full range of Volcano nozzle sizes and materials. Hardened-steel nozzles up to 450 °C for carbon and glass-filled filament.
The nozzle-to-probe offset is measured automatically, more precisely than by hand. Griffin Ultra fits GEN5 and Gen4 BIG printers, including IDEX; X travel reduces by 50 mm.
A 45 × 45 × 20 cm bottle: 77 hours with the standard Griffin at 0.3 mm layers, 17 hours with the Griffin Ultra at 1.2 mm layers. A container of the same class: 80 hours to 12. Swap the head, not the machine.
IDEX dual print head add-on
Each extruder rides its own Y carriage. While one prints, the other parks outside the print area: no cross-contamination between materials, no idle nozzle dragging through the part. Geometries that a single head cannot print. Available for every BIG model.
A second Griffin print head with clog detector, PTFE and spool mount; the secondary Y-axis motor with belts and pulleys; metal brackets for the second Y axis and both print heads; wiring, drag chains and optical end-stops.
Add-ons that change the specification
The base kit is a complete printer. These add-ons extend temperature, throughput, safety and daily handling. Current prices for your model are in the configurator and on every quote.
Captures the bed heat for a warm, stable chamber around the part and stiffens the frame. Fewer warps and cracks on ABS, ASA, PC and Nylon.
Flex the spring-steel plate and even large, high-adhesion parts release. No prying, no scraping, no waiting for the bed to cool.
Three-stage filtration draws the chamber air through a vent hose, cleans it and returns it, on a variable-speed fan so the chamber stays warm while printing.
Fully automatic inline drying with molecular-sieve technology: it removes moisture continuously while the printer runs, and the sieve never needs replacing.
The default mount takes 3 kg spools. The shelf carries 8 kg spools on bearing rollers so the extruder pulls easily through multi-day prints.
One cable to the wall for bed heaters, electronics box and air filter, with two safety circuit breakers and Duet-controlled switching of the bed heaters and the filter.
The touchscreen on an articulating arm, a large emergency-stop button and a front power switch. Machine control at the front of the printer, not inside the frame.
Replaces the smooth rods on the BIG-60 and BIG-120X with HIWIN linear rails, the same class used in CNC and semiconductor equipment. Tall parts get a visibly smoother surface.
A complete ready-to-swap hotend: swap it in minutes, service the old one at the bench, keep printing.
Hardened steel for carbon-fiber, glass-fiber, wood-fill and other abrasives that wear brass within hours, rated to 450 °C. Brass for PLA, PETG, ABS and ASA.
Basic kit: the print head and motion wear items every new machine should have on the shelf. Advanced kit: belts, pulleys, bearings, motors, print-head parts and fasteners for remote and production sites.
A time bank of video sessions with a Modix engineer for design, slicing and material choices. Guided installation and operator training at your site, quoted per location.
Materials
Any 1.75 mm filament, no lock-in. Modix supplies tested print profiles for the common materials and professional-services hours for the demanding ones.

Carbon-fiber and glass-fiber filled filaments print with the hardened-steel nozzle pack. Large parts in ABS, ASA, PC and Nylon want the enclosure to hold the chamber heat, and the active air filter to keep the room clean.
MAMA line, pellet and filament FGF / FFF
Three machines built around an 80 × 80 mm frame and a high-flow FGF screw extruder. The MAMA-1000 and MAMA-1700 pair a travelling XY gantry with a bed that moves in Z; the MAMA XL-3000 has a static bed and a gantry that travels in X, Y and Z. Each MAMA ships in the configuration you choose: a pellet head, a Griffin Ultra filament head, or two filament heads as IDEX. The MAMA line is its own platform and is not part of GEN5.
