Generation 5 is an infrastructure upgrade across the Modix BIG line, built around one goal: add capabilities to the printer you already own instead of buying a new machine every time the technology moves. At its center is the Duet 3 control platform with CAN bus distributed electronics. Machines ordered through the summer are already shipping on the new platform.
What’s new in Generation 5
- Duet 3 platform with distributed print-head electronics and tool boards
- CAN bus expansion: more than 20 axes and drivers through expansion modules, without redesigning the main electronics
- Integrated accelerometer for automated calibration and motion tuning
- Ethernet as standard plus removable Wi-Fi for cyber-security-sensitive organizations
- New touchscreen interface and updated user experience
- Reliability improvements throughout, based on customer feedback
Announced: upcoming add-ons for Generation 5
Planned for introduction at Formnext 2026. One machine, several printing technologies, swapped as the job demands.
- Automatic tool changing and multi-material printing: the Bondtech INDX tool changer brings multiple materials and colors within one part to Modix printers of one meter and above
- Compact pellet extrusion on the BIG series: pellets for throughput and low raw-material cost, filament for detail, on the platform you already own
- 45-degree printing: a tilted print-head system for large hollow parts, saving kilograms of support material and hours of post-processing
